MOCAP MAPPING: the making-of

NuFormer HQ – Upon the request of many, NuFormer hereby provides a glimpse behind the scenes of the latest revolution in 3D video mapping: Mocap Mapping. This versatile interactive production is the result of a great team effort that started with a challenging idea of NuFormer’s managing director Rob Delfgaauw.

The Mocap Mapping seen from the camera's perspective

On the 21st of March the show went live. After some months of preparations, all systems were ready to treat a selected group of invitees to the world’s first Mocap Mapping, a new innovative step in interactive 3D video mapping projection. The production combines video mapping with motion capture, opening up a broad range of possibilities for the entertainment, education, communication and marketing industry.

It was a great challenge, bringing together the right parties and streamlining all the different technologies to make the systems communicate with each other. Besides the technical challenges there were also the personal ones. For motion capture actor Matt, the main challenge was to move as natural as possible in his ‘time machine’ while interacting with the audience and his virtual environment. Nothing was scripted, so all interaction was spontaneous. Judging from the audience’s response, Matt did a great job impersonating comical time traveler Perry Dox.

Looking back, the NuFormer team can be happy with the result. With the launch of Mocap Mapping they have presented the world with an extremely versatile interactive video mapping solution. The Mocap Mapping setup is mobile and thus able to operate anywhere in the world and it can be performed in any required language and in any kind of animation style.

Hopefully, you will enjoy watching the “making-of” video as much as the team enjoyed making the Mocap Mapping!
